After Your PMU Session

Following a PMU procedure, there is an expected sequence of healing behaviors within the skin. Freshly PMU serviced eyebrows are temperamental in healing; Be patient while waiting to see your results. It can take up to 6 weeks to see final results from each session. Although everyone heals differently here is the general trend of healing:

Day 1:

Typically you will experience swelling and minor soreness in the area. This will subside within the first 48 hrs. During this time you may ice the treated area, making sure the ice pack is wrapped in a dry cloth so no moisture is transferred onto the freshly shaded brows. There may be residual plasma or slight blood clotting over the area; this is a result of the body’s healing process when a wound is inflicted. Eyebrows will appear 10-40% darker and more intense in color.; this is due to pigment implanting in the upper layer of the epidermis which will flake off. Warm toner is added during the PMU service to avoid healed brows turning gray; as a result the pigment will appear orange but does not last.

Day 2-3:

The eyebrows will begin to scab and feel raised when touched. You will experience itching as the skin starts to heal itself. The hair strokes may heal in patches. It is critical that you do not pick, peel or scratch your eyebrows as this will impact pigment retention. At this point you will be cleansing your brows with a gentle cleanser such as baby shampoo, as listed below in the aftercare instructions.

Day 4-7:

Scabbing and flaking of the eyebrows will occur until they no longer feel raised. The itching sensation should be minimized once the skin has fully exfoliated. You may be concerned that there is little color retention at this point due to the masking by the epidermal layer of the skin. Do not be discouraged during this phase of healing, the pigment will gradually start to come back.

Day 8-40:

The pigment implanted in the upper dermis will solidify and a touch up of the eyebrows can be done at the 6-8 week point. At the second session we will assess where additional pigment is required.
